What it’s like to work with YFP Wealth

What makes YFP Wealth different?

We combine pharmacy expertise with comprehensive financial planning. Founded by a pharmacist and led by CFP® professionals, we understand the unique challenges pharmacists face. As a fee-only fiduciary firm, we’re legally required to act in your best interest. No commissions, no hidden agendas.

What is a fiduciary, and are you one? Why does that matter?

Yes. As a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA), we have a legal obligation to act in your best interest at all times. We can’t receive commissions and must put your interests first. Unlike brokers held to a “suitable” standard, we’re held to the highest standard in the industry. This minimizes conflicts of interest and ensures our recommendations align with your goals.

What does the comprehensive financial planning process include?

If it has a $ attached to it, we are here to be a part of the conversation. Our financial planning process covers several key areas: retirement planning, investment management, tax planning, life planning, insurance review, estate planning, debt optimization, and cash flow strategy. We build a personalized plan tailored to your goals and situation to help you live your rich life, today and tomorrow.

What type of pharmacists do you work with?

We primarily work with established, mid- to late-career pharmacists who hold $250,000+ in investable assets (old 401(k)s, IRAs, and brokerage accounts—not including current employer plans, real estate, or business equity). We also serve the broader pharmacy community through our podcast, blog, and webinars.

Are you trusted by pharmacy organizations?

Yes. Since 2017, we’ve been the financial education and planning partner for the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), collaborating to serve their 40,000+ members nationwide. We also partner with state pharmacy associations, large employers, and colleges of pharmacy across the country. To date, we’ve partnered with more than 100 pharmacy organizations, associations, employers, and colleges to assist with financial wellness and education.

What if I’m not a pharmacist? Will you still work with me?

Yes. While we specialize in serving pharmacists, we also work with their family members, close friends, and colleagues. Our comprehensive planning approach works for anyone looking for fee-only, fiduciary financial planning. Learn more about how YFP Wealth works with non-pharmacists.

Do I have enough assets to become a client?

We typically work with clients who have at least $250,000 in investable assets. If you’re building toward this level, take advantage of our free resources like our podcast, blog, calculators, guides, and webinars.

Where will my money be? Do I still own my accounts?

Your money stays in your name at Altruist, a leading independent custodian. You maintain full ownership and access at all times. We’re granted trading authority within your Investment Policy Statement, which we create together. You always retain complete control and visibility.

Can I work with you and still manage my investments?

A big part of the value we provide comes from coordinating your financial plan and your investment strategy together. Because of this, we require that YFP Wealth manage your investments so we can deliver the level of clarity, oversight, and ongoing decision-making our clients expect.

We understand some people enjoy managing their own portfolios, and we respect that. In those cases, we may not be the best fit. But if you’re looking for a collaborative partner to help steward both your plan and your investments, we’d be honored to work with you.

How do we meet since you serve clients across the country?

We’re a virtual-first firm meeting via video conference. We’ve served clients nationwide this way since our founding in 2015.

Do we have to commit long-term?

No. There’s no long-term contract. You may, at your sole discretion, accept, reject, or implement our recommendations. You may cancel your engagement with 30 days written notice. That said, financial planning works best as an ongoing partnership as life changes, and your plan adapts. We’re looking for clients who are interested in a long-term relationship.

Will I work with you alone or with my spouse/partner?

We get the best results when both partners are engaged. At a minimum, both spouses or partners must sign the client agreement, even if one person leads day-to-day management. We want everyone working toward shared goals.

How do you keep my data secure?

We work with a compliance and IT firm to ensure optimal cybersecurity. All client data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We use RightCapital (bank-level encryption) and Altruist (institutional-grade security). We treat your data like our own.

Who you’ll be working with

What credentials does your advisory team have?

Every planning team member holds the CFP® (CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™) designation or is in the process of obtaining the CFP®. CFP® professionals must complete a two-part education requirement, pass a comprehensive exam, complete 4,000-6,000 hours of professional experience before using the CFP® mark, meet ongoing education requirements, and adhere to strict ethical standards.

Will I work directly with Tim Ulbrich, PharmD, or Tim Baker, CFP®, RICP®, RLP®?

While our founders remain deeply involved, they don’t personally oversee every client relationship. You’ll work with talented CFP® professionals who deliver the same high standards and comprehensive approach. The entire team operates with the values, processes, and commitment to excellence that Tim and Tim established.

Who will we be working with?

You’ll work with a dedicated CFP® professional as your lead advisor, supported by our client service team. Your advisor leads planning meetings, develops recommendations, and is available for questions. Unlike big-box firms, where you’re just a number, we take care of you.

What we can help you with

What services do you offer?

We offer comprehensive financial planning across eight key areas: retirement planning, investment management, tax planning, life planning, insurance review, estate planning, debt optimization, and cash flow strategy. This is an ongoing partnership to help you build wealth and live your rich life, today and tomorrow.

Do you offer proactive tax planning?

Yes. Tax planning is integrated into our service offering. We look forward to helping you minimize taxes over your lifetime through strategies like Roth conversions, tax-loss harvesting, charitable giving, and optimizing income timing. While we don’t file your taxes, we’ll collaborate with your CPA to ensure alignment.

What is your investment philosophy?

Our approach is evidence-based, low-cost, and focused on diversification. We use broad market exposure through low-cost index funds and ETFs, which research shows consistently outperform actively managed funds. We don’t try to time the market or pick individual stocks. We build portfolios tailored to your goals, risk tolerance, and time horizon, optimized for tax efficiency. We believe in “time in the market,” not “timing the market.”

Can you help me with retirement planning?

Absolutely. We help you answer the big questions: Am I on track? How much do I need to save? When can I retire? How do I transition from a paycheck to drawing income? We build a comprehensive retirement plan accounting for all income sources and optimize your withdrawal strategy to minimize taxes and ensure your money lasts.

How we charge and what you get for it

What are your fees, and how do you charge?

Our fees are transparent and based on your investable assets. This all-inclusive fee covers comprehensive financial planning, ongoing investment management, and ongoing access to your advisory team. No hidden fees or commissions. Fees are billed quarterly and automatically deducted from your investment account.

More specifically, we charge 1% tiered down on your investable assets (subject to a minimum fee of $5,000) per the schedule below:

Account Value Investment Management Fee
Up to $500,000 1.00%
$500,001 – $1,000,000 0.90%
$1,000,001 – $2,000,000 0.80%
$2,000,001 and above 0.70%

What do I get for this fee?

You get comprehensive financial planning, ongoing investment management, and a dedicated team. Research from Vanguard shows that a good advisor can add about 3% in net returns annually through behavioral coaching, tax optimization, and portfolio rebalancing. You also get clarity, confidence, and time back to focus on what matters most.
